Interfaith peace and other Peace Building initiatives

Lasting peace is built on religious harmony, interfaith coexistence, mutual respect, and the ability of people from different faiths to live together with dignity. Although Nepal’s Constitution embraces secularism and recognizes the country’s rich religious and cultural diversity, challenges such as religious discrimination, social polarization, and occasional faith-based tensions continue to affect community relationships. Strengthening interfaith understanding, trust, and collaboration is therefore essential to building sustainable peace and inclusive communities.

Since last 7 years, Initiative for Transformation Nepal (InT-Nepal) has been working to foster peaceful, inclusive and resilient communities by promoting religious harmony, interfaith dialogue, coexistence, and social cohesion at different places of Gandaki Province (Province 4). We collaborate closely with faith leaders, local governments, civil society organizations, youth, women and community members to create safe spaces for dialogue, strengthen local peacebuilding capacities and promote collaborative action across different communities.

We believe that faith leaders are among the most influential agents of social transformation. By equipping and mobilizing leaders from diverse religious groups, we encourage them to catalyst mutual respect, nonviolence, and inclusion while addressing discrimination based on religion, caste, gender, ethnicity and other forms of social discrimination. Through dialogue, joint community initiatives, and peace education, faith leaders are empowered to become trusted advocates for reconciliation and lasting peace.

Our work also extends to partnerships with like-minded organizations to strengthen interfaith cooperation, promote social inclusion, and advance human rights. As part of these efforts, InT-Nepal contributed to civil society submissions to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in 2025, advocating for religious harmony, inclusion, and protection of fundamental human rights of all religious groups in Nepal.

InT-Nepal is helping prevent conflict before it escalates, strengthening trust among diverse religious communities, and fostering a culture of dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. Together, we are contributing to a more peaceful, inclusive, and harmonious Nepal where people of all faiths and backgrounds can live together with dignity, respect and hope.
